The Royal Entomological Society announces ambitious nationwide programme for Insect Week 2026

On the leadup to a big week in the insect science community, the Royal Entomological Society has unveiled exciting plans for Insect Week 2026, with a major expansion into five City Hubs across the UK and Ireland, bringing free insect-inspired events, activities and experiences directly into the heart of communities.

Running from 22–28 June 2026, Insect Week is the UK’s largest celebration of insects and the vital role they play in sustaining life on Earth. Under the banner “Stand Tall for the Small”, the week-long programme will feature bug hunts, exhibitions, creative workshops, science demonstrations, photography activities, nature walks and family-friendly experiences designed to connect people of all ages with the incredible world of insects.

For the first time, five dedicated City Hubs will coordinate their efforts to take part in providing free and engaging insect-themed activities in Cardiff, Liverpool, Dublin, Edinburgh and London.

With huge thanks to generous funding from the Big Give and The National Lottery Community Fund, each hub will deliver a vibrant programme of free public activities led by leading entomologists, educators, museums, universities and conservation organisations.

The expansion reflects the Royal Entomological Society’s growing commitment to making insect science accessible, inclusive and inspiring for everyone – particularly young people and under-represented communities.

Inspiring Curiosity and Action

The Royal Entomological Society hopes the expanded City Hub programme will inspire thousands of people to discover how insects support ecosystems, food production, scientific innovation and biodiversity.

The initiative also aims to encourage greater environmental awareness and citizen science participation, while helping communities reconnect with nature in meaningful and accessible ways.

“Insects are fundamental to healthy ecosystems and our everyday lives, yet many species are under increasing pressure. Insect Week is an opportunity to celebrate their extraordinary diversity and inspire people to notice, value and protect them. By expanding into city hubs across the UK and Ireland, we hope to reach even more communities and create lasting connections with the natural world.”

– Professor Jane Stout, President of the Royal Entomological Society

We want Insect Week 2026 to be bigger, more inclusive and more accessible than ever before. Whether someone is discovering insects for the very first time or already passionate about nature, these city hubs will offer exciting opportunities to explore, learn and get involved.”

– Fran Sconce, Senior Outreach & Learning Officer at the Royal Entomological Society
