3 light traps will be set up around the Nature Reserve in Diss. These will be a portable 15W battery operated trap, and 2 125Watt traps powered by generators. The traps will go on about 10pm but it is anticipated that most insects won’t come to the traps before 10.45pm. Come and go as you please, but it is expected that the traps will run until 02.00am if moths are still being attracted to the lights.
Whilst these are working local naturalist, Jono Forgham will be wandering the reserve with a bright head torch and a net to catch moths that are attracted to the torch light. Do bring a head torch with you and there will be a few spare nets for others to use.
If a warm night over 50 species of moths, totalling over 200 perhaps may be caught, identified and released.
Meet at Ampersand Brewery at 9 am for a brief presentation on moths before crossing the road and on to the reserve.
